Indonesians who Visit Korea has Risen by 20% Last Year
Head of Korean Tourism Organization (based in Singapore) Liang Wen Zhu said, the number of Indonesians who visit Korea has risen by 20% last year, and he believes that this year there would be even better results.
He said that Indonesia is the country with the most Muslims in the world, and the organization regards it as an important market with the most potential. Thus, the theme for last year’s promotional activities was “Korea Welcomes Muslims”, and many facilities were set up at the tourist spots for these Muslim visitors.
“This year the organization is using the theme of “Korea Sparkling” for its promotional activities in two major cities in Indonesia. The first day would be in Surabaya, followed by 3 days in Jakarta.”
Liang Wen Zhu was speaking at a promotional event held in a hotel on Friday. Many representatives from travel agencies from Korea and Indonesia attended the event.
On the other hand, when asked if the economic crisis would affect the Korean tourism industry, he pointed out that the number of visitors have not lessened, but showed signs of increasing.
“That is because the exchange rate of Korean Won to US dollars have decreased by 40%, inciting more visitors to visit Korea.
On the other hand, Korean Ambassador based in Indonesia Jin Hao Rong said, Tourism, being a non-smoke industry, can help to boost the economy, while improving the level of communication and understanding between the people of the two nations.
“Korean serials started the Hallyu, attracting many people to visit the scenic Korea. This has helped the tourism industry in Korea, while Korean food is also becoming more popular by the day in Indonesia.”
He said that many Korean visitors are no strangers to Indonesia’s Bali. Every year, there are many Indonesian visitors to Korea, and he hopes that the people of the two nations would continue to interact through the channel brought about by tourism.
That evening, Lee An turned up at the event as Korea’s Tourism Ambassador, welcoming Indonesians to visit Korea, and to enjoy the wonderful sights available throughout its four seasons.
He also performed many songs at the event, winning the rousing response from his supporters.
